Here’s one for the kids just in time for Earth Day.
The web site “Green My Parents,” which enlists children as environmental activists, launched today. The site is the portal to a nationwide program, based on the book “Green My Parents,” that encourages children to pressure their parents into adopting an environmentally-friendly lifestyle.
From the site:
Green My Parents is a movement that activates & enlists kids to lead their families in measuring & reducing environmental impact at home & challenge their parents to share savings with kids.
Green My Parents connects the environmental crises directly to life at home through personal action, simple, creative and meaningful solutions, and learning the values of sustainability, health, family and money.
Green My Parents features fun “eco-assignments” that save money and the planet. Kids learn how to kill energy vampires, make their pets greener, and more. They grade their parents on saving energy, water and gasoline.
Members are encouraged to exert peer pressure on other children to get them to participate in the program. The promise of a financial reward is also key to motivating children to sign up.
According to the New York Times:
Green My Parents…designed a program that makes behavior change easy and economically rewarding for participants. Such a clear directive is key right now, given the general lack of success in communicating sustainability’s importance to the public. It should be abundantly clear that the average person isn’t going to act on behalf of polar bears, let alone take the time to understand cap and trade. By reaching out to kids, you’re reaching out to a population that most likely doesn’t need to be persuaded that there’s a problem and, significantly, that hasn’t had time to develop ingrained habits around daily acts like driving, shopping and showering.
Kids are urged not just to find ways to save money and energy but to negotiate with their parents for a percentage of the realized savings in return for their initiative.
Green My Parents is a definite win-win for the liberal progressive movement. They get to promote two significant ideologies to your children – global warming and wealth redistribution.
The program was launched via a free online workshop this morning and included distribution of the book, "Green My Parents." You may want to check your childrens’ backpacks – and secure your wallet – when the kids get home from school today.

OMG... the part about negotiating for a percentage of the realized savings is TRULY the worst part. God help us and our children.
This stuff always makes me wonder - are there THAT many people in the US who don't know that it is good to recycle, clean up after yourself, and generally minimize waste? These are just smart ways of living and being a thrifty person, having nothing to do with trying to save the environment. I used to recycle our aluminum cans when I was pretty young. We saved them all, I smashed them all by hand and then took them to the recycling place with my dad where I was allowed to keep the money. We did it because it was a good way to earn a little money for me and also do something smart (recycling).
Why do liberals think the government and schools need to force everything on us? If presented with options and information (without mandates and laws), the majority of Americans will do what is best for them.
Sorry for vent!
good gawd(!), the brainwashing never ceases from the state. seriously disturbing, but I would expect nothing less from this current admin. of course my kids and I go nuts when we see litter bugs out there, making dumb decisions about our environment, but c'mon! earth day is a joke when compared to the real harm being done on this planet. sorry for jumping on your vent!
LOL, Lisa. I wouldn't call that a vent, but feel free to do so here anytime. Your points are always well taken, BTW.
I dislike groups that attempt to recruit children while bypassing their parents. Knowing how susceptible children are to peer pressure, I find it particularly odious that GMP expressly states they are using kids to recruit kids.
Encouraging these kids to “challenge” their parents for a share in any savings accrued from, as you said, minimizing waste, is also disturbing. That decision belongs solely to the parents based on their own criteria for how they choose to reward their children, and they shouldn’t be subjected to “challenges” to their rules because GMP encourages their children to do so.
JG, I agree with both you and Lisa, that we should respect our environment. I recycle, plant an organic garden, have replaced all my windows and appliances with energy efficient models, and turn off lights when I leave a room. I even drive a standard transmission car, which offers better gas mileage than an automatic transmission vehicle. The difference between myself and the global warming community is that I respect my environment, but I don't worship it. I think there's a certain arrogance to claiming that "man" has the ability to effect climate change.
I wonder if they have a hotline for the kids to call when they see their parents going against the movement's guidelines? Absolute insanity. The best part is that this movement peaked about 4 years ago, and now everyone's as sick and ashamed of buying into it as they were a year or so after the Macarana went out of vogue.
That book is already banned from my house; the website is now, too.
This kind of crap has got to stop. Now. There is no longer any reason for any parent to allow this in their school district. To hell with PC, to hell with the whiny left . . . we need to take a stand and take it now.
o yay more indocrination!
Candle, I think adults are seriously questioning the global warming movement these days, but it's different for kids. They're being taught this stuff in school and therefore, are more likely to accept it as gospel truth.
Snark, I hadn't heard about this book until I read the article in the NYT today. I find it amazing that an entire "movement" is being designed around one book.
Fuzzi, you might be amazed at how many youth groups are dedicated to environmentalism. I know I was when I did some research on this, and is probably something I'll post about in the near future.
I'm afraid that's the name of the game, Angel.
Just remember who liberals are spawned from: totalitarian Marxists and Bolsheviks. These commies in the old USSR used to indoctrinate kids into ratting out their parents for anti-government activities, to include even TALKING about what a lousy government they had over the dinner table.
The Hitler Youth: ditto. Oh, that's right. When I mention Hitler, I lose the argument.
The part about "grading their parents" is creepy. Once they've "graded" their parents, then what happens? Do they report them to the Green Police?
Of course they are reported to the GP. And if the report card falls below B-, arrest warrants are issued.
