Swim With the Fishes

That term is taking on an entirely new meaning in Rhode Island.
The unrelenting rain that’s soaked the state over the past few days has local rivers at flood state; neighborhoods submerged; portions of interstate highways under water, and beach erosion along the shoreline.
This latest storm is exacerbating problems from other heavy, and prolonged, rain storms we’ve had this month. Calling this the worst incidence of state-wide flooding in a century, Rhode Island Governor Don Carcieri has asked all residents to get off the roads by 5PM, as our main thoroughfare, Interstate 95, may be closed.
As for me, I’m on basement duty today. The water’s not too bad; seeping in slowly enough to direct it into the French drain. Rain, rain, go away…

Good luck with the flooding. I can only imagine the anxiety watching and waiting.
Thanks Opie. Our only problem is the excessive rain. We live about 1/2 mile from the Blackstone River, pictured above, which may crest tonight.
Good luck with basement duty. Fingers crossed for you.
Hang in there, OTC. I had to go through this in the fall in the southeast. It's not fun.
On the other hand, you could take a half-full mentality and hope that maybe the storm will wash away some of the moonbats up there.
Thanks, QR. The rain has finally stopped and we were lucky, not too much water.
Thanks Snark. I remember your posts about the drenching rainstorms and floods in Georgia. It's always good to look at the glass as half full. =)
Here's hoping you're still relatively dry!
Goof Luck my friend, I can really feel for you.
We are Janie, and thanks. The sun is finally shining today and we're all grateful for that.
Thanks, Mal. I only had to contend with some water in my basement. Many others in the state have lost their homes and businesses.
Well I guess when I got all that snow in Feb. was far better than what you are dealing with. It seems like you and your belongings survived.
Things are fine with us, JACG. Those living just to the north, east and south of us are suffering the consequences of the storm. Too bad Obama, who was just across the border in Massachusetts pushing his health care law, couldn't be bothered coming to RI to survey the damage.
